Our Commitment to Professional Advocacy:
The Massachusetts Prehospital Coalition exists to improve patient care through respectful, good-faith discussion of public policy. Our members speak as citizens and licensed professionals on matters of public concern, including statewide treatment protocols, scope of practice, education standards, and the structure of the bodies that oversee EMS in the Commonwealth.
Our work is about improving the system, not criticizing the people in it. Patient privacy comes first: we never discuss identifiable patients or share protected health information.
Members take part as individuals, and their views are their own, not those of their employers.
We believe that providers who raise concerns about patient safety and public policy strengthen the EMS system. Every EMS provider learns the principles of crew resource management: anyone on the team can and should speak up when they see a risk to the patient, regardless of rank. A just culture applies that same principle to the whole system.
Professional licensure exists to protect the public, and we trust that the Office of Emergency Medical Services, the Medical Services Committee, EMCAB, EMS agencies, EMS education institutions, and medical directors share our commitment to an environment where providers can speak openly without fear of retaliation. Open dialogue is how good policy is made.
Healthcare advocacy is protected by the Massachusetts health care whistleblower law (G.L. c. 149, § 187), the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), and the First Amendment.
